Miami Valley Gordon Setter Club, Inc. was founded after a group of Gordon Setter folks banded together in 1980 to rescue a Gordon Setter from an Ohio shelter. The name Miami Valley comes from the area surrounding the Great Miami River in the western part of the state, which was a central point for the membership at that time. Currently the club's official territory is the entire state of Ohio, eastern Indiana and northern Kentucky.

The purpose of the club is to encourage and promote welfare of the Gordon Setter breed, by protecting and advancing the interests of pure-bred Gordon Setters, and to encourage sportsmanlike competition in dog events. Club membership gives Gordon Setter folks an opportunity to share camaraderie and information with other Gordon owners. Members receive a club newsletter four times a year, and work together to host five competition events every year, as well as other events with fun rather than competition as the goal.

Most club members also belong to the Gordon Setter Club of America, Inc. (GSCA), the national breed club affiliated with the American Kennel Club. Miami Valley serves as the Area Committee for the GSCA events held in Ohio, and several Miami Valley members have held or are currently holding positions on the GSCA Board of Directors. This gives local club members access to information on Gordon Setter issues at a national level as well as at a local level.

All people interested in the welfare of Gordon Setters are welcome to join the Miami Valley Gordon Setter Club. New members need to be sponsored by two Miami Valley members in good standing with the club. Most people ask their breeder for sponsorship. You can download the application from the Application section of this web page. Attending a club event is another way to meet club members. See the Event section for a calendar of upcoming events.
